Floor framing is made up of beams, joists, and subflooring. Beams rest on the foundation, joists rest on the beams, and subflooring is laid on top of the joists. This creates a tic-tac-toe pattern of support with the joists and beams perpendicular to one another. Because the floor impacts everything above it, it's important the framing is in good condition.
One of the biggest threats to the strength of joists and beams is notching. When a section is cut out, or notched, it compromises the framing integrity. Here are a few examples I've seen in homes lately.
